FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Have questions?  We have answers.  Here are a few common questions we've gathered to help you get started.

Is there a difference between an Interior Designer and Decorator?

Interior Design vs. Interior Decorating

While the terms are often used interchangeably, interior design and interior decorating are distinct professions.

In short: interior designers design, decorators decorate.

Interior design is both an art and a science. It involves understanding how people use and interact with a space to create functional, safe, and beautiful environments.

Interior designers complete formal education and training, apprentice with a registered designer, and pass exams to become licensed or registered with a professional board. They collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and trades, and can plan structural changes when needed.

Interior decorating, on the other hand, does not require formal education. Decorators focus on aesthetic elements such as color, fabrics, furnishings, and accessories, enhancing a space after structural and functional work has already been completed.

Is an Interior Designer worth the investment?

Reason #1 – Save Money and Time
A professional designer helps you avoid costly mistakes and get the look you want the first time. With their expertise and resources, they can even increase your home’s value. Designers also save you time by anticipating obstacles, managing details, and keeping your project moving smoothly.

Reason #2 – Access to Expertise and Resources
Designers have insider knowledge of materials, products, and trades you won’t find on your own. From sourcing unique pieces to recommending trusted contractors, they make your vision possible with ease.

Reason #3 – Create a Cohesive, Functional Space
It’s not just about beauty—designers ensure your home is functional, safe, and tailored to your lifestyle. Every layout, material, and detail is intentional, making your home both stylish and practical.

Reason #4 – Reduce Stress and Enjoy the Process
Renovations and decorating can feel overwhelming. A designer guides every step, coordinates vendors, and handles the unexpected, letting you relax and enjoy watching your home come to life.
